The Dog Days of Summer...

Is it me or was this the fastest Summer Break ever. My family was crazy busy this season. We did mini remodels on our bathrooms. The Hubs outdid himself and the son and I assisted where we could. The next home projects will be to paint three more rooms. Home maintenance never ends.

I did take a break a couple of days ago and made this liner for this bicycle basket. It is a gift for my friend's retirement. She loves it and I am so glad. I need to sit down and refine my quilty to do list. There are so many things I want to make.

I am looking for more of this fabric. It is Project Runway-"You got the notions" by Robert Kaufman #D8570. I last bought it at JoAnn fabrics. They no longer have it at my local store. I would really like to have it for borders on my current project. I think it would add a nice finish.

Using my stash of Sew Now Sew Wow by Alexander Henry. Thanks to my BFF Spike for coming to visit and bringing all kinds of fabric to share with me! We made all our blocks and laid them out. We have a goal set to get the top done. I am on the lookout for a certain fabric for the borders. I am so glad to have spent some Stitchy time with my Pal!

I just have to hand-stitch the binding and the Camp Starlight Quilt will be ready for delivery. I am so excited to be able to contribute to such a worthy cause. God willing I will be heading for the west coast later this week. This quilt will be auctioned off to raise funds for Camp Starlight in June.

Long time no post. I have been crazy busy. I have been trying to focus on my word CREATE. Mostly creating the life I really wanted. I have spent a lot more time with my family and am a better Wife and Mother. I am really spending a lot more time exercising and am feeling really good about my fitness level. No, I am not ready for a marathon but I am ready to walk across the Coronado/San Diego Bay Bridge. Last June when my Cousins invited me to challenge myself to do this four mile run/walk I thought I might need medical assistance. ;-) Now I know I will have no trouble walking that four miles. I have been attending Zumba fitness classes. What fun it is to have an hour of dancing.

So on the stitchy front I have not created much. I am playing catch up on this project. What do you think of this fabric for the borders?

I am very thankful I have the chance recently to see my little Brother. I made him this pillowcase. I love this technique. I have seen it a while back and decided to try it out. I will be using this technique from now on.

I have a long list of things to sew or quilt. Up next is the above quilt and a quilted prayer shawl for a dear friend. So what are you working on?

Where have I been? It is too long and too complicated to explain. Instead, I will share some photos of my Christmas decor. I hope everyone is feeling some peace and joy this Christmas season.

I made those little Elf Clogs a couple of years ago with a free pattern from Allsorts. If you have not been to her blog you are surely missing out. We use our Elf Clogs for Saint Nicholas Day. There is a Hot Wheel and foil wrapped chocolate coins in the other clog. This is one of our Christmas traditions that is sweet and simple.

I am having a bit of trouble getting and staying organized these days. Adjusting to all the demands of fifth grade for my little one. Boy do they have loads of homework for the children and the parents. It seems there is always something going on. Papers to fill out, projects to assist with and open house. Not to mention trying to get in my walking time and sleep time. Not to worry though it will all work out just fine.

I did make some time to sew. This project was not really on my list of things to stitch. I made a little wall hanging to put behind my skeleton model. With no actual pattern I just chose some fabric and went at it.

I made some nine patches.

Added some other blocks.

Those did not look right to me so I added some black.

Which became this. Yes, I made twenty four blocks and only used four. Not to worry, I will make a runner or something from the others.

I layered it up and machine quilted it, lickety split

Made a stripey binding, machine stitched it on, machine stitched it down and added a casing in back to hang it nicely. The stripes remind me of Beetlejuice and/or the wicked witch of the west's stockings. Not bad for a girl who is not into Halloween.

Now I am going to go spend some time with the Hubby! I hope you all have a great weekend!

A little Saturday morning stitching...

First I chose a charm pack for a fast dolly quilt.

Changed the needle on my machine. These are my faves for piecing.

Quickly stitched the charms together.

Layered charmed side right sides together with backing and on top of batting. Trimmed edges to size of charm top.

Put in a few pins, so I could carry it to the machine and keep it neat. Stitched 1/4" around, leaving an opening for turning.

Clipped corners.
Turned right side out through opening.

Used a knitting needle to push out corners.

Nice and tidy.
Stitched around edges, which will close up the opening.

Quilted simply.

Wound a fresh bobbin and finished quilting.

All done.
Here it is with the half dozen dolly diapers.

I was so happy with my self I made a second one right away.

I am feeling great and can't wait to start on my next little project! I am thinking of making something to go with my new skeleton.

Me time...

I meant to post on this subject sooner but here it is anyway. This Summer in Charming Girls Quilt Club we were challenged to focus on Self-Care. What a great idea.

I had already been challenged by my lovely cousin Jill to participate in the San Diego/Coronado Bay Bridge Walk/Run next Spring. Since then I have been walking with my sweet neighbor Patti almost every evening. I am thinking I may be the last person off that bridge but I refuse to give up. It will be funny when the geriatric set passes me up.

I also went camping with some of my best friends. I am not an outdoorsy girl but I had a great time. There was eight women and eight children. I was impressed by how much my son enjoyed all the outdoor activities.

Recently, I was able to get together with two of my best friends and make some of those folded charm coasters. We had a good time chatting and were able to make forty coasters for a local fund raiser. Many hands...

I also participated in a woman's event at my church. It was the launch of Girlfriends Unlimited. The idea is too have all the women come together in a large group but also to form many small groups with common interests. I am excited to form closer friendships and bonds with the women I worship with. I hope to join the walk/run group. the beading group, and maybe a sew/quilt group and attend the many events planned in the near future. This is not your mother's church club.

There is nothing more refreshing than spending time with friends to help recharge the soul. I hope that all of you get a chance to do the same for yourselves.

Pretty in pink...

I have gotten a start on the dolly diapers. They are so cute. I have used the pattern Cindy posted on her Skip to my Lou blog. If you have never visited Skip to my Lou, you should. She is creative and generous with many free tutorials.

I traced out six diapers on a double layer of pink polka dot flannel. I then stitched on the lines leaving an opening on the straight edge, for turning.

I then trimmed all the curved sides with my pinking shears. I trimmed the straight edge a slightly wider with a regular scissor. It will help to keep a tidier finish when turning. I also clipped all the corners.

Turned right side out and used a knitting needle to push out the corners. Folded in the opening neatly.
Top stitched all around, which seals the opening and gives a nice finish. I used the softest Velcro I could find
Adorable, now to finish up the other five.

I decided I needed a model. You know some of these models are so thin.

Isn't he hilarious. I am not much of a Halloween person but I just knew my Hubby and the Boy would love this guy. Not to mention he was forty percent off at JoAnn Fabrics.

Make Doll Quilts and diapers for my little friends.
Make some hats for a loved one who is undergoing Chemo.

Charming Girls Quilt Club July/Aug. Finish

Where did the Summer go? Well I did completely finish My Brothers camp quilt. I even sent it to him in plenty of time so that he could take it to camp with him. Pause: patting self on back. ;-)

I am really excited to report that there was some fabrics left and plenty of the focus fabric that was printed for this project. So I will be making another camp quilt that will be used in a fund raising auction for Camp Starlight early in 2011. You can read about Camp Starlight on this brochure. You can also read a little more about Camp Starlight here. I am touched by the fact that so many good and kind people take a week of their time each Summer to give these wonderful children a chance to be kids.

Gonna sew the binding on this afternoon and hope to be hand-stitching the binding down tonight. I am getting pretty excited! I usually only take two evenings to stitch down the binding. So I am thinking I will be at the UPS first thing Friday morning!

Charming Girls Quilt Club July Finish

Here is my July finish. It is the only thing I worked on this month. I am very happy about this quilt.
As I mentioned before it's for my Brother. He had the fabric in the centers of the squares printed by Spoonflower. I bought the plaids because they remind me of the plaid button up shirts he wore when we were kids.
Isn't he cute! The color in this photo is a little faded.

Here's one of us together. He is a great brother and I can't wait to send him his new quilt.

I am looking forward to seeing what all the other Charming Girls have done this month.

My Brother's Camp Quilt is coming right along. I am feeling pretty happy about it. I have all the blocks ready and hope to have the top done by Sunday. Then I need to decide on the backing, get it quilted and then the binding. No problem.

Time seems to fly. Summer is half over and school starts in a month for my little one. He is growing up so fast. He really is not little anymore.

For those of you who asked. The Coronado Bay Bridge Run/Walk is four miles. It is open to the public and the fee is used to help military families. I will post more about it later on. Hope you are enjoying your Summer.

The only thing that slows me down is I have to many ideas. I am sticking to the original one but it's not easy. I love improvising. I have stopped a few times to jot down the other ideas for future use.

Charming Girls & Guys Quilt Club July/Aug.

Thanks to Kelly of Charming Chatter for hosting another year of CG&GQC. This year things will be slightly different. Please check out what's new here.

The theme for July/August is Self-Care. We are sharing how we will care for ourselves. I like the idea. I know many of us do not put a priority on taking care of ourselves. I am guilty of self neglect. I am the only girl in my house and often forget to have girly time. So for this month I will spend a little extra time on my self. I am also working toward being more healthy. I have a goal to participate in a run/walk across the San Diego/Coronado Bay Bridge next Spring. I made plans with my family to participate, so I need to prepare myself. I am not sure I can run but I will do my best to keep up.

For my sewing goal this month I will finish and send my Big Brother his camp quilt. I am very happy to have the opportunity to make this for him. I can't even think of what comes after this project. I will have to post that after I am done with this one.

Well my bloggy friends you may have wondered where I went. My life was really busy there for a while. I went to Cali. I needed to see a certain family member and as a major bonus I was able to spend some quality time with my Sister's family. I attended my beautiful Niece's high school graduation and my Nephews kindergarten graduation. Yes, they are siblings. I also spent time with my Mama and big Brother.

Made a trip to Michael's to buy supplies for my Niece to decorate her cap. Cool huh? They did not allow this in the stone ages. ;-) The graduating class was 748 students, huge.

I attended my Niece's baccalaureate. Only about a hundred kids attended. She is a member of the choir and we were pleasantly surprised that the choir director had each of the seniors sing a solo. It was a thrill to be able to hear my beloved Niece sing. All of us cried.

Here is a random, in the car, on the freeway shot. The Pacific ocean is just beyond those palm trees.

These are the lovely flowers my cousins brought me when they drove down to visit from the LA area. I really had a great time with them, my sister and my niece that day. We took as long saying good bye as we did visiting. Every minute of everyday was packed with things to do. I did not even go to the beach or any quilt shops. I did however buy a pair of giant scissors that my sister needs to mail to me. Hint, hint Sister!

When the guys picked me up at the airport I was sick. So they took me to the ER first and then home. I had a major case of bronchitis and an acute sore throat. Go figure, I probably caught a germ on the way out there and with all the excitement and lack of sleep it took me down.

The next day was my Little One's Birthday. Fortunately, my good friend had the party at her house so the hubby and the boy went without me. Thank God for good friends!

After that was VBS. Need I say more. Summertime is filled with things to be done. Yard work, house work, laundry, running the kid around, etc...

So now or is that Sew Now! I have to get some serious cutting and sewing done. I have been a major slacker.

I have been seriously MIA. I hope you are all enjoying what is left of Spring. I have not been doing much quilting. I am working on a quilt for my big Bro. I mentioned that I was collecting fabric for it here. This is what I have now. So far I am still fussy cutting all the little stars. the layout above is not what I am doing. I managed to keep up with the Jelly roll quilt along and the hexagon quilt a long. I know these blocks do not really qualify for CG&GQC. I decided not to start the Pinwheel Party.

I did have a blast making my bag at the Tote Bag Sewing Party. It is was hosted by Kris of Dandelion Quilts. I have been busy this month. Soccer has started, which means more and more time is spent at the soccer fields. Hoping to accomplish more in May. Can't wait to see what the rest of the club has been up to.

This was a quick and easy bag to make. I did not make any pockets.

Here is everything all cut and ready.

Had to use some pins.
Don't forget to change the needle. Lots of layers here. I made two and a half inch bias binding to cover the raw edges. The pattern does call for a lining fabric. I chose not to follow directions since my fabric was pretty on both sides.

I also did not follow the handle directions. I made four inch wide bias binding.

Here is the wrong side. I kinda like it. I guess this could be a reversible bag.

This is the right side. I am liking it.

I am home from my little ones soccer game, score 4-2.

I am going to use this fabric . Pre-quilted Portobello Market by Three Sisters. I picked it up the other day at The Gallery. It was a bargain I could not resist. Sandy and Frank have the best prices around and markdown fabrics often. I believe this was twelve dollars a yard.

I am making bag A from the Slouchy Bags book by Cindy Taylor Oates. The pattern does not call for pre-quilted fabric but I am sure I can make it work.

My Brother sent me a message a while back and asked if I had heard of Spoonflower, why I yes I had. He had sent in a design and had a swatch made and was wondering if I would make him a quilt. I jumped at the chance. I had been wanting to make him a quilt for ages and just had not done it yet. After all he is my older, cooler, more stylish Brother. Yesterday a package arrived from Spoonflower. I know that many of you know that you can now design your own fabric and have it printed for you.

So today, I zoomed on down to The Quilt Company in Allison Park. My BFF Spike met me there and then we went to lunch and had a nice long chat. I do not know for sure what pattern I want to make. I do however think I should buy more fabric. The way that the fabric lines are trending currently kind of make it a challenge to find blue and yellow. So the hunt is on. I did buy some fabric prematurely and found it to be far to washed out for this quilt but I will make something else out of it. BTW I restrained myself from buying yards and yards of new stuff.

Charming Girls & Guys Quilt Club April Goals

I was having trouble posting yesterday. It would not have been a big deal if not for the fact that it was the last day to post my goals for this month. Procrastination does not pay. Oh well, live and learn.

In April, I hope to keep up with the Jelly Roll quilt a long, maybe join in the Pinwheel Party, start with the hexagon quilt a long, do a small tutorial and post on Stash Manicure. I understand that these items may not qualify for the drawing but I will be busy this month and will not have allot of me time.

Charming Girls & Guys Quilt Club March Finishes

What a month! I am glad it is over. Here are my CG&GQC finishes. I am keeping up very well with the Jelly roll quilt a long. I am not using a jelly roll, just fabric I already have on hand.

These are my first string blocks ever. They were included in a very special quilt for an injured U.S. Marine.

These are for a special blogger. Shh...it's a secret.

Last but not least, I finally put my Monkey Wrench quilt together! Sorry I do not have a photo of the whole thing. There was not anyone around to hold it up for me.

I have been enjoying the great weather. The Spring allergies not so much. Today the allergies were out of control. I had to miss out on going to the movies with my family. I guess I will see 'The Diary of a Wimpy Kid' another time.

I did make my Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along block. I like the way that they are posted every other week. I am still chugging along on the Monkey Wrench quilt. I hope you all have a good National Quilting Day!

This is as far as I have gotten on my dolls. They crack me up. I will get them done soon. I hope.

Went to one of those paint your own pottery places with my Sweet Hubby and wonderful Son. I liked it, too bad it is so pricey. I would go there once a month if it were more affordable.

I made and mailed my blocks for Matt. Though, I did forget to enclosed a note. I will send it along post haste.
I made my block for the Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along. On the first day no less.

I have made a lot of progress on the monkey wrench blocks. They are all ready to start sewing joining the blocks into rows and getting the whole top together. I love it.

I hope all of you are getting some time to create and relax.

Charming Girls & Guys Quilt Club February Finish

I finished my Mama's quilt. I am so glad to have finished and sent it on it's way. She already received it and loves it. I just crisscrossed through the squares with straight lines. It is about 80 inches square and was about the largest that I ever want to quilt on my home machine. I am pleased with the result.
My little one decided to wrap up in it right away. He said he was putting love in it for his Little Grandma.
I did not finish my Monkey wrench quilt. I did however make a little bunny to get ready for Spring.

Spring Sewing Party

I am getting ready for the Spring Sewing Party. I will be making one of the dolls designed by Sweet Meadows Farm. Maureen designs some of the cutest dolls I have ever seen. I already made myself some templates (I do not like to cut my patterns). I still have to choose the fabric for the clothes and hair.

Where has the day gone? I managed to trace the body parts. Then I had to make breakfast for my family.
Then I was back upstairs and stitched away!
Opp! I to pause and clean out the fuzz! Yuck!
Time to cut it all out.
Pause for some pc time.
Getting ready to stuff. Bummer, have to go cook lunch.
All stuffed. Those fingers crack me up.
Painted on the shoes. Spent some time with my family while the paint dried.
Painted on the socks. Time to cook dinner!
Still waiting for paint to dry. Stitched on four arms and a head.
Finally the paint dried and the legs are on.
What a day! I guess if we were not snowed in the guys might have needed so much of my attention. I am not sure I will finish my dolls tonight but I will try. I am going to go and see what the rest of you party people are up to.

Second update

Okay so it took me almost two hours to see what everyone is up to! Wow all the Charming people are so talented and creative. I found inspiration everywhere. So now my problem is it is getting late and I am having trouble choosing the fabric and hair for my dolls. Too many choices and not enough decisions. ;-) What do you think?

Is it Spring Yet?

I am so over the gray skies and the snow removal this Winter! I am moving on to some Spring projects. So I joined in on the fun here.

I usually give my dolls more of a prim look and I may still muddy her up a bit. For now I am leaving her like this.

I am very excited about some patterns my Hubby bought for me from Sweet Meadows Farm. Last night I traced all the parts onto plastic and made my templates. I plan on making a doll for the Spring Sewing Party.

I also joined in on the Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt-A-Long. It sounds like a lot of fun. I am going to make mine out of fabric already in the stash. I have actually never bought any Jelly Rolls.

So that is what I am up to, how about you?

I am going to baste, quilt and bind this top as soon as possible. It is for my Mama and I want to send it out next week. My little one helped me with it so far and I am sure my Mama will love it.

This month I hope to finish my monkey wrench and stitchery quilt top. I have no plan or pattern so who knows what it is going to turn out like.

My Grandma Cecilia

Today is my Grandma's birthday. I will rejoice in the memories I have of her. I will wear her favorite color and maybe go buy some roses for my table. I choose to remember the best of times and the laughter. She is the youngest child in this photo, back when solemn was the only way to pose for a portrait.
This is her in high school. Trying to look serious. I'll bet she and her friends were in a fit of giggles over their photos.
Here she is after being married and starting a family.

My Grandma always seemed so much younger than other peoples grandparents. She was a mother to nine and a grandmother to over thirty of us, not to mention all the great and now great great grandchildren. Imagine if not for her we might all not be here at all. Amazing to me. I am lucky to have inherited a love of sewing from her. Though she did not teach me to sew, she did let me root through her sewing basket when I was very young. I am sure that her creativity rubbed off on me. I love this photo. She often sat like that with her arms like that. I sit like that too (in mirror image).

I will be posting my February goals later. Lots to work on this month!

Decorating with Quilts

I love the the monthly Tags our Charming Girls leaders, Kelly and Joan, are coming up with. This month it is show how you decorate with quilts. So here it is. One of my quilty pals made this snowman wall hanging for me. Another friend bought me the shovel.

Sometimes I leave things on the chair until I decide where it will be displayed.

That's my baby nine years ago.

This is my travel Ott light cover. I designed it so that I could carry the light by it's handle. I made this one and one for Spike a few years back.

This is the one I made this month for my friend Nicole. I am going to make three more for her scrap booking group.

I am so happy to be stitching. Small projects to get going in the New Year.

I made these pincushions for Me and Spike . A great use of some scraps.

Finished my little friends gift bag.

Made my purse liner.

Broke my fabulous seam ripper. Yes, it was fabulous for sixteen years. It was a gift from my DH. I was totally bummed out. It was my fault I was not careful. I used it to remove some old wool yarn from one of my spools. Bad idea. Now to try to find a new one.

I have so many things I want to make this year. I am still working on my stitching goals list.

My little ones prayers were answered! No school today nothing but fun & games for him.

I on the other had am dismantling the Christmas decor as well as cooking & cleaning. I have to say I did not even go outside and clear the snow from the driveway. Hoping to get upstairs and get some stitching done but not before I play Banana grams with my little one.

Charming Girls Quilt Club Goals for January 2010

With this fabric I will be making an portable Ott light cover for a friend of mine. I only promised it to her forever and a day ago!

Here is my portable Ott light and cover.

I would like to make something with this fabric. Any ideas? I have about a yard of it. The children are about four and half inches tall.

I am going to make a liner for my Longaberger basket purse with this fabric. The pre-printed blocks are about one inch.

Last but not least I am going to make a bag for my little friend Bella and put these Japanese eraser in it. Apparently, little girls are using these erasers as pretend food for their American Girl dolls.
That's it for now. I am going to go mix up some dough for tonight's Stromboli dinner. Wish me luck.

Best Childhood Christmas Memory

I know most people who know me today would be surprised to know I was a painfully shy up until early adulthood. So imagine how hard it would be for me when my Mom or some other person asked me what I wanted Santa to bring me for Christmas. I never would tell anyone until the year that the Baby Alive doll came on the market. I was dying for this doll and even though it was torture for me I told everyone who would listen. I even wrote a letter to Santa that I only wanted a Baby Alive Doll and nothing else, not even goodies in my stocking. I was just dying to have that doll, all the while, I never felt confident that my Mom would buy such an expensive toy for me. Well that year it was like a miracle to me that yes I did get my very own Baby Alive.

For quite awhile I was the happiest little girl in So. Cal. That is until my little brother decided I had done him some imaginary wrong and kidnapped her. Apparently while I was at school He took her head apart to see how things worked and could not put my baby back together so he hid her in the backyard. I was so bummed. The even funnier thing is that we found her about a year and a half later and the inside of head after being left out was all rusty. Oh well. It was great while it lasted. Merry Christmas!

This is my favorite ornament. I made him in the third grade. He is plaster of paris with a paper clip stuck in for a hanger and painted with Tempura paint. He is pretty much the only item I saved from elementary school and the only ornament from my childhood. We always hang him in a prominent place on our big tree.

I have to run for now. Pick up a few grocery items, do some more baking and spend time with my family. I hope you have a wonderful and fulfilling Christmas experience. God Bless You!

To Save A Life

I know some of you may think, Why is she posting about a movie? Well let me tell you why. I just had the opportunity to screen 'To Save A Life" and I am hoping that many of you will take the time to view the clip and join them on Facebook. This movie deals with all the difficulties that our youth are struggling with, in a realistic way. Today's youth are in a different world when they walk out the front door everyday.

There are so many things we do with our free time, please take a few minutes to see if this story could help save someone you know. This is an indie movie meaning that it will only show in theaters that have been guaranteed that the tickects are paid for in advance. The only way it will be shown otherwise is if it becomes a hit. Similar to the way that Fireproof and other movies caught on. We are working on having this brought to our area so that we can use it as a way to open dialogue with out youth. December CGQC Goals

First, I will make the Schnibble Tuffets! I just have to chose fabric.

Second, I hope to finish this little wall hanging.

Third, I will border, quilt and bind this little pinwheel quilt. Spike and I made three of these out of the leftovers from the Siggy Block Swap. No perfect points here but we are fine with the wonky results. It is just a tiny little thing.

I may also have to come up with some Teacher gifts. We'll see. I am kind of on the fence in this area. I know a few educators and have heard that not all gifts are appreciated and I am not into giving gift cards or money. I would love to hear what you think. Should parents send in gifts for their children's teachers? What about Sunday school teachers?

For my sweet Hubby. We are perfect for each other. He is on vacation this week and we are having a great time hanging out here at home. We have already clocked numerous hours playing The Beatles Edition Rockband. We have even played while the little one is at school. Who knew a video game could be so much fun? Not me. We are also gearing up for the Christmas season. I am ready to decorate. Except first I want to paint all the photo frames in the Family room.

I am also thankful for my little boy. He is a true treasure. He brings joy to my heart just by being himself. I love everything about being his Mama. I am truly blessed. We are having a good time making Christmas crafts.

I also had a good time last week. My BFF Spike came over on Thursday for the Heritage Day at my little ones school. After spending the day there we came back here exchanged some gifts (I'll show those in another post), hung out with the guys, played Rockband, stitched and had a great time. Then on Friday we met another friend for coffee and then back here to my place for some more stitching. There is something to be said about having a true friend who also shares the same hobbies as you. I am very thankful to God for sending me such a great friend!

First I would like to thank those of you who have taken the time to comment on my last post. I have to admit that I left one very important person out. My darling Husband. I know, shame on me. How could I forget that my very own Husband served in the US Army?! My hats is off to him for all the good things he has done and will do. I would brag some more about him but I always remember an old wives tale (an old lady told me when I was a girl). Regarding not to brag too much on your man, else some other may set her sights on him. Silly huh?

Now on to some stitchy related items. First, I am sure that I am not the only person to come up with this idea. A wine rack, to hold my freezer paper, fusible and Teflon sheets.

Second look at this cute lamp I bought. My little one spotted it. He noticed that it looked like a spool and knew I would have to have it. Cute huh? Some day soon I will redo the lamp shade.

Well, It is time to go pick up my little one from school.

I spent today thinking of the men and women who have served and our serving our country. I hold them in the highest regard and am proud of all of them. I especially thought of the family members who have served and are serving now. I pray for the ones who are gone now, that they are at peace and free of the sorrows of war.

My Uncle Johnny. U.S. Army, Vietnam. Sadly, I could not find a photo of him in uniform. I am grateful that these three men all came home and had more time with family. My heart goes out to those that did not.

This is my Cousin receiving his commission as an officer a few years ago. He made officer the hard way. I am very proud of him. He has over twenty years of service and still serving proudly!

I thank God this photo is a few years old and this particular GI (Cousin) is home safe with his family. He service is hitting twenty years later this month.

This little cutie is my baby Sister. This is right after her US Navy boot camp. I am so proud of her and her husband. They both served during the first Gulf War. They meet while in the Navy and are both out now. They are a great couple and are raising two wonderful children. God has blessed our family and I thank him for that everyday.

I have many other cousins & friends who have served or are currently serving. I wish them and all the other service men & women, peace & love!

Schnibbles...failure...

Well I guess it's more of a revised plan than an actual failure. I sewed the first two rows together and of course I had one flipped the wrong way. Arrgh!

So now I can make a table runners.

That or I guess I could break out the seam ripper. Yes, I do realize October is almost over and I am still fussing with September's Schnibble. I have not even purchased Cindy Lou Who yet. I may not even purchase it. I may just start fresh with the November Schnibble and hope for the best. Yes, that is what I will do. Right after I flip a coin as to what to do with this mess.

Thanks to Amy of Park City Girl for hosting another Blogger's Quilt Festival. I can't wait to see all the other quilts and read their stories.

I don't know the name of this pattern. It was a group effort. Me and about ten of my closest Quilty Pals swapped fabrics and each made ourselves pretty much the same quilt. We all had our own take on the same pattern different borders, bindings etc... For number of years we all got together on a regular basis. We even went on retreat every year for a long time. Lives change, people move, home situations change and children grow. So we do not often get together as a group any more. I am just glad to have a reminder of the years we spent sharing our lives and quilting together.

disappeared from the face of the the earth. I was on an unplanned blog break. All is well on the home front, now. So back in to my studio I go.

I did mange to finish two projects for Charming Girls, too bad I did not post them in time. I made the superhero cape for my Mama's little friend and my siggy block for the Civil War Block Swap. I do not have a photo to share of the cape. I did not however finish my Schnibbles project. I am still on the trimming of the flying geese stage. I hope to finish it soon.

It is going to take me a couple of days to catch up on all my bloggy friends posts. Wishing a Happy Fall!

I am making a bit shorter list this month. Things are getting busy around here. I have been taking it easy around here as far as sewing and quilting. Thanks again to Kelly for hosting this fun and inspiring club.

My first goal is to make my Schnibbles quilt. Yes, I have been hoarding charm packs like a squirrel getting ready for Winter! Now I am not sure what fabric I want to use for this months project!

August Charming Girls' Quilt Club Finishes

Coin purse zippers are all set in. I use mine for my camera.

Monkey wrench blocks done! I love them.

Raider bag done!
I used buttons from My Hubby's dress uniform. I saved them for many years.

Here is Army purse number one, finished. It is a Kimie's Quilts pattern, Pocketbook Purse. I have made this pattern many times. It is a nice gift.

Here is Army bag number 2, finished. It has many nice pockets and is a nice size for everyday.

I mad these for my Aunt and Cousin. My Cousin's little girl just joined the Army. I thought that they might like to show their pride and that they would appreciate the buttons from My Hubby's dress uniform.
So that is five finishes for August, so far. I have not finished my stitcheries or make the wallet or strawberry pincushion. I did make my tea towel. I just need to go to the post office. I am not sure if all of these finishes really count for CGQC. That is up to Kelly. I am just happy to have some finishes. I love seeing everyone's goals and finishes.

Major Birthday Loot! So thoughtful and perfect. I mean who finds a blueberry jam bag to go with their homemade blueberry jam? Who bakes their BFF lemon muffins and then packages them so cute? Spike, that's who! Other than my Hubby, Spike knows me best. Spike knows that I needed a timer so that I am not surfing blogs to long. Spike knows I love Lemonhead candy, anything ME, fabric, teddy bears etc... Thanks again Pal!

I also have to admit that Spike helped tremendously with the party on Monday. I would not have made it through without Spikes help. It was the hottest and most humid day! Yuck! I was miserable. The dozen children had a wonderful time and that is all that mattered. After everyone left Spike helped me finish up my monkey wrench blocks. I was so close that it only took us a little time to finish. I sewed and Spike pressed. Now for me to figure out a setting. I think I need to make some more stitchery.

Today I made the Raiders bag. I had no pattern I just winged it based on what was asked for. I hope it's at least close to what she had in mind. I just have to add a button.

Back to School...Party!

I must admit that I love when My Son is home. I am kind of sad that the Summer break is almost over. We decided to have an end of Summer party for the kids. My three closest friends will be here. Two of them have grandchildren to bring. We also invited My Sons two closest Pals. That adds up to about a dozen kids running wild for three and a half hours. We are going to feed them pizza & sugar and then send them home. My buddy Barb is bringing a pinata. Let's hope that I survive the heat and humidity.

I have been working like crazy on the monkey wrench blocks. I hope to finish them today! Wish me luck! Spike will be here and I am hoping to send her batch home with her.

Our Brother in law Christopher (Valerie's Hubby) is Umpiring the Championship game tonight at Western Regional in San Bernadino, CA for Little League. You can watch the game on ESPN 6pm PST (9pm EST). He will be the Ump behind home plate. We are very proud of Chris!

I neglected to post who designed the coin purses. It is a Kimie's pattern from Indygo Junction. It is now called Country Pouch, I believe it used to say large makeup bag. In any case, it is just the right size to put my BlackBerry or my camera or any number of things the get lost in your bag. the original pattern was pieced on the outside. I prefer to feature one fabric and I machine down my binding and add a little applique or button.

Made my guys a nice breakfast. I threw some chocolate chips on the last three pancakes.

Everyone just kind of did what they wanted yesterday. My Sweet Hubby worked on an article. My Little One played. I spent most of my time in My studio. I pressed, cut and stitched all day. I also put the last zipper in last night. All six of my coin purses are finished.

I spent the majority of my day on the monkey wrench blocks. I could kick myself for not putting the fabrics right side together before cutting. I had to flip over a couple hundred HST's and rectangles. I have them ready for pressing then it is on to putting the blocks together.

Next is the four inch blocks. I do have the strips cut, now to sub cut. I am hoping to have these done by Friday. I already know that I am not making the quilt in the magazine. I think I may mix these blocks with the stitchery I did this past winter.

Next, I have to catch up on A Christmas Wish another lovely free BOM from Gail Pan Designs.

How did I get so far behind. I was saving them to work on while in CA. I decided against at the last minute. I felt I would be busy spending time with My Familia. I was right we were busy, having a wonderful time.
